Dock Manager at UTi Contract Logistics & Distribution, Charleston, SC
SUMMARY
We offer supply chain solutions in transportation management solutions to our customers. The dock manager is responsible for a cross dock operation of 5,000 square feet. This position is responsible for ensuring the timely loading and unloading of material to the direct customers of the dock services. The Dock Manager will be responsible for managing a team of fork lift operators, working closely across multiple customer units, communicating and reporting monthly performance, ensuring a safe work environment, ensuring a seamless flow of materials from receipt of material to final delivery. This position will report to the Logistics Manager positioned in Charleston, SC.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Manage a team of fork-lift operators to ensure the receipt and delivery of materials to various customers within the facility.
•Reporting responsibility for all inbound and outbound carrier appointment times. Ensure that carriers are adhering to pre-arranged appointment times.
•Manage employee’s hours, time-sheets, off-hours coverage, development and training.
•Provide back-up support for employee vacations/sick-time.
•Provide on-call coverage support.
•Manage maintenance of equipment including forklifts, doors, etc.
•Ensure safety standards are being adhered to by all employees.
•Adherence to clean work-space and good housekeeping standards.
•Support team members by entering shipping and receiving activity into Microsoft excel (or BCC receiving software) to create monthly billing.
•Capture appropriate data to generate weekly reports on volume, hours, productivity, OSHA Safety, OS&D reports.
•Set up and lead monthly customer review meetings to report team’s performance and dock initiatives.
•Track and trace customer shipments.
•Communicate effectively with customers and team members.
•Responsible for accurate data entry and creating monthly reporting.
•Work closely with team members to meet or exceed all customer service requirements.
•Filing/record maintenance and scanning outbound and inbound bill of lading
•Assist CHS Logistics Team with scheduling carrier arrivals. Track carrier on-time performance to pre-determined carrier appointment time slots.
•Back up Logistics Manager as required.
OTHER DUTIES
•Drive forklift when short staffed.
•Log in appropriate paperwork for small package deliveries.
•Track in out packages and correspond information to monthly billing for customer.
•Track propane usage and report accordingly to accounting.
•Review, update and maintain standard operating procedures (SOP’s)
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES (IF ANY)
•Ensure direct reports deliver projects within scope and on time and meet customer expectations.
•Convey to team the master service agreement so that the team thoroughly understands services within contract scope and that they stay within the contract scope.
•Manage team vacations, schedules and work load of team to assist in project prioritization.
•Mentor team to ensure right decisions are being met.
•Solid understanding of operational sites needs.
QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED)
•Have 3 years experience in administrative role and/or customer service.
•BSBA degree.
•Background in shipping & receiving / logistics.
•Forklift Certified a plus.
•Knowledge of Fedex and UPS shipping processes.
•Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
•Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
•Superior attention to detail.
•Ability to prioritize work in a multi-tasked, fast-paced environment.
•Able to work flexible hours when required.
•Excellent and accurate typing and PC skills required.
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Computer Skills
•Proficient with all Microsoft Office applications; i.e. Project, Word, Excel, Access, Visio, Office
•Knowledge and understanding of Transportation Management Systems, i.e. i2/JDE
•Ability to navigate through various web portals; i.e. FedEx and UPS tracking systems.
Education and/or Experience
•BSBA degree and 3 years experience in administrative role and/or customer service.

•Analytical and a solid mathematics foundation is a must.

•Project Management Certified a plus.
