Ethanol Grain Receiving Technician at Flint Hills Resources, Shell Rock, IA

Flint Hills Resources Renewables, LLC is looking for a Grain Receiving Tech to work at our Shell Rock, Iowa Ethanol Plant. This position will safely operate and maintain area equipment in the plant in order to produce maximum production rates and quality product to meet or exceed the customer's needs.
 
 
JOB DESCRIPTION & DUTIES:
Typical responsibilities will include:
  • Maintain self awareness on safety issues and requirements and report any safety concerns immediately to your supervisor or EH&S Manager.
  • Maintaining area equipment to ensure operational reliability at all times
  • Preparing equipment for maintenance activities
  • Lock out, hot work, and other safety procedure compliance
  • In house product sampling and testing
  • Maintain operation of plant within designated limits
  • Housekeeping in the plant area to ensure a safe and clean workplace
  • Performing routine checks of equipment
  • Maintaining appropriate logs
  • Making necessary adjustments to maintain normal operation of equipment
  • Reporting any unusual situations to the Shift Leader as they occur
  • Preventing spills and releases wherever possible
  • Actively promote FHR’s Values and Guiding Principles with team members, outside vendors, and customers.
  • Additional duties as assigned

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS or UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

While performing the essential duties of this position, the Team Member will be exposed to moving, mechanical parts, dusty conditions, high noise levels, internal and external temperature/weather conditions, and exposed to chemicals.  Specific Physical requirements include:
  • Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing, stooping, reaching, pulling, pushing, twisting, bending, kneeling, crawling and grasping.  Standing for extended periods of time, walking up to one (1) mile per day, and data entry while seated for greater than one (1) hour.
  • Ability to lift, push and pull up to 50 lbs occasionally and 30 lbs frequently (unassisted)
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and climb several flights of stairs and ladders up to 200 feet
  • Exposure to environmental conditions (frequently walking in and outdoors) with exposure to extreme cold and warm temperatures from -20 to +100 degrees
  • Must be willing to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (Hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, heeled boots and hearing protection)
  • Ability to work overtime as needed

 
 
WORK EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED:     
  • Strong commitment to safety and environmental issues. Willingness to adhere to all safety and health rules, plant rules, procedures and guidelines.
  • Computer skills, specifically the ability to use Microsoft products and ability to learn to use proprietary databases.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work without direct supervision to accomplish goals and meet schedules
  • Proven solid work ethic and ability to work well with others as well as independently
  • Posess strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Must be open-minded and adaptive to change, promote the collective interests of the team more than self-interest, able to resolve problems in a respectful manner.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license       

 
WORK EXPERIENCE & SKILLS PREFERRED:                                           
  • Previous ethanol or chemical plant operations experience                                                                                                             
EDUCATION REQUIRED:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
                                                                                                                       
EDUCATION PREFERRED:
  • Technical School training (Industrial plant operations or Process Technology)
